Kathryn Sandland | Designer

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED AND HOW DID YOU GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?

When Campbells reached out to me to be their very first apprentice I was honored to be a forerunner of such an amazing opportunity. It spoke to who they are as people & leaders that they recognized something in me, that I had not yet discovered myself. So, I took a deep breath, jumped head first into the world of kitchen and bath design and haven’t looked back. Years later, the creative drive I have now is all due to my apprenticeship and those who led me to my role as a designer today.

WHAT’S ONE THING THAT YOU THINK PEOPLE GET WRONG ABOUT KITCHEN DESIGN?

That kitchens are strictly a utilitarian space. To me, it is the heartbeat of the home & a space that should thoughtfully reflect the individual using it everyday, and invite others to share in those everyday moments.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR DESIGN STYLE? WHAT INSPIRES YOUR DESIGNS?

Timeless. Uniquely inspired. Multi-faceted. Fresh. Purposeful.

My design lifeblood comes from the classic nods of English-inspired homes to the simplicity of Scandinavian minimalism to the bold flare of industrial modern aesthetic.

WHAT ARE YOUR INTERESTS OUTSIDE OF KITCHEN DESIGN?

Travel. People, culture, and landscapes are the most inspiring things to me. Learning how others do life & embracing the differences creates a rich foundation for any artist or designer.

WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN?

Design is not a job, it’s a perspective.
