Tracey Scalzo | Certified Master Kitchen & Bath Designer

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED AND HOW DID YOU GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?

My father was a contractor so I was raised in the industry. I started designing floorplans as a very young child and have always been fascinated by the use of space and how it impacts how we feel, function and relate to the people within it. Following graduate school, I fell into the family business focusing on kitchens and baths, eventually earned Certified Master Kitchen and Bath Designer accreditation, honing my skills with ever more interesting and challenging projects. Several years ago, Campbell Cabinetry Design appeared on my radar. I was intrigued by their developing reputation for design and forward-thinking business model. I’m pleased and thankful to have joined the team.

WHAT’S ONE THING THAT YOU THINK PEOPLE GET WRONG ABOUT KITCHEN DESIGN?

I don’t think most people understand how important the actual design is. Great design makes your life better: more efficient, more satisfying, more fun! Many people focus on a particular design style, pretty doors and colors. These are important but so many other factors need to be considered in a really thoughtfully designed kitchen. There are the physical traits, abilities and sometimes challenges of the users, food preferences and shopping habits that inform cooking styles and storage needs, the selection and location of appliances in relation to ergonomics and traffic flow, frequency and style of entertaining, housekeeping standards and of course the physical constraints of the space, relationship to other areas of the home and outdoors, lighting, etc.- including budget- before we even think about choosing doors or colors.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR DESIGN STYLE? WHAT INSPIRES YOUR DESIGNS?

While my personal style leans toward a clean, uncluttered modern aesthetic neither my home or my life looks that way! (We all dream…) I’m inspired by natural elements, colors and textures but I believe that the foundations of good design remain the same regardless of personal style. In my work I take my cues from my client’s lifestyle, dreams and aspirations.

WHAT ARE YOUR INTERESTS OUTSIDE OF KITCHEN DESIGN?

When not working my focus is on family and fun. I enjoy cooking (and eating!), visiting with family and friends, hiking in the mountains when we can get there and camper traveling to music festivals.

WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN?

The best advice- live and work by “The Golden Rule”; to treat others as I wish to be treated (with grace, honesty, respect, consideration and integrity). Can’t go wrong with that!
