HOW DID YOU GET STARTED AND HOW DID YOU GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?
My professional journey began at the University of Florida in the dynamic fields of Architecture & Urban and Regional Planning. After a few years of working for architecture firms in both Fort Lauderdale and New York City, I felt pulled back to Sarasota to be closer to my loved ones. Teaming up with my father, a local contractor, was a pivotal moment in my journey. It was here that I discovered my true passion for designing upscale residential spaces. Engaging with clients, understanding their vision and needs, and translating them into elegant, livable homes quickly became the cornerstone of my career. During this period, I had the opportunity to collaborate on projects with the Campbells where I discovered a newfound love for cabinetry. Recognizing that cabinetry design lies at the foundation of every home, blending functionality with aesthetics; I found myself immersed in the intricate art of creating spaces and pushing the bounds of how cabinetry plays a role in design.
WHAT’S ONE THING THAT YOU THINK PEOPLE GET WRONG ABOUT KITCHEN DESIGN?
Often, people perceive kitchen design as a one-size-fits-all approach. Customization and thoughtful consideration of how the kitchen will be used, its setting, and the users are all vital components for creating a design that truly enhances your daily life. Striking the right balance between style and practicality is essential for achieving a successful kitchen design.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR DESIGN STYLE? WHAT INSPIRES YOUR DESIGNS?
My design style is deeply influenced by my background in architecture, emphasizing effective spatial planning, visual harmony, human-scale design focusing on spaces that feel welcoming and accommodating to human interactions and activities, and optimizing the functionality of every space. I aim to strike a balance between beauty and purpose. I enjoy bold & elegant designs, infused with simplicity. I utilize materials, textures, and a variety of finishes to add depth and personality to each project. I find inspiration in various sources from architectural wonders to natural landscapes and I seek to infuse my designs with a sense of timelessness and innovation. Ultimately, my goal is to create spaces that not only captivate the eye but also enrich the lives of those who inhabit them.
WHAT ARE YOUR INTERESTS OUTSIDE OF KITCHEN DESIGN?
I enjoy traveling. I lived abroad in Italy while studying architecture and have prioritized visiting other countries for travel and cultural immersion. I enjoy playing sports like volleyball and pickleball. I enjoy dining with friends and family, going to the beach and soaking in our beautiful sunsets. I am always working on my own renovation projects whether it's schematic design, space planning, furniture sourcing, selecting finishes, decorating, etc.
WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN?
My professor, a renowned architect, once told me, "Although it may appear that all avenues of design have been explored, each project offers a distinctive chance to challenge conventions and pursue further innovation." This has stayed with me and continues to be the method in which I approach each design challenge.
